Come - Share some spring with me!
We arrived in Provo, Utah yesterday April 10, 2013. We got storm stayed in Cedar City for 2 days as there was a wicked storm over much of Utah. They are having unusually cold weather here as well and are anxiously awaiting a warm up. If any of us compared to what Saskatchewan is experiencing this winter/spring we should probably SHUT UP!
Don was talking to his mom and she said in all the years that they came south for the winter they never ran into snow in Utah. Well that figures. It was really wet, snow, rain and high winds. As we heard on the news, no travel recommended in a lot of areas and high profile vehicles - watch out. They said "a lot of "sem eye's" will end up in the ditch or overturned. Kind of a boring 2 days but did a lot of reading, playing on the computer and what not.
There was a lot of snow close to the road and a lot of salt on the highway. It was clean and dry when we drove so it was all good. Along the way we saw a lot of cows, horses and sheep. The last little calf in this group was running to catch up and it looked so cute.
There was a petting zoo right beside a rest stop on the highway, I had seen this zebra from the highway and had to take a closer look
This is Mt. Nebo, I loved the way the clouds swirled around it, it is at an elevation of over 11,000
Today - we did a little shopping
Aren't these interesting! wouldn't it be easy to buy these and not have to cook or buy food for a month?
We came back to the motorhome and I read on face book about all the snow they are getting in Prince Albert and Saskatoon. I talk briefly to my sister on Skype and I can sense her disappointment that spring is still delayed. I feel so bad for our family and friends having to endure more winter. They have really had it rough and they all deserve a medal of some sort for surviving it. I decided that I would go for a walk and try to share some spring with all of you. Truly, not to irritate you, but to show you whats coming - and that its worth it!
So please, come for a walk with me
The trees have that little tinge of green, you know how they do in the spring? The air smelled like earthy damp leaves and fresh grass. It's such a fresh, clean spring air. After about 2 blocks, you realize that the 2 layers you have been wearing the last few days is too hot. Excitedly, you remove one layer.
Now I can't say that you will relate to this one on our walk, but holy cow, I love this. We are in a really nice camp ground that has trees and grass and we are nestled in all around by these beautiful mountains. It is well, I think cozy!
Oh look the trees are flowering and putting out their seeds.
Oh course we hear some robins and a few geese. Overhead a pair of ducks honk happily by. It is so peaceful and there is not much traffic noise at all. There is a state park only 2 blocks from the campground. BONUS - but the sign says we have to pay to enter (even if you are walking). That will be for tomorrow then!
There is a river right near by and it looks really full of water! Oh, and I hear some frogs. There are some coots floating in it.
We walk by some horses, this one looks like a cross between a donkey and a horse. They had all been playing and braying, just happy to be in the sun. As soon as they see us this one came over expectantly and honestly he looked a little crabby when I said I had nothing for him.
Of course , we cannot have our spring walk without some early flowers.
Well, how lucky is that, right in the camp ground there is a path that leads along the river. The path is soft and grey with layers of leaves.
The trees are really big and gnarly.
Oops I guess the path has not been cleared yet. Time to take a detour.
We walk across the grass toward the motor home and look at that, another sure sign of spring. Even these flowers are welcome at this stage.
By this time the remaining layer even feels warm so off it goes as we take a little sit down at the picnic table. The sun has a chance to make our ears and cheeks feel that lovely warm feeling. A Williamson's sapsucker zings past the top of my head to get to a tree and tap tap tap. A little group of noisy sparrow's plays hide and seek. A little spring breeze comes up and the layer goes back on but we continue to sit and enjoy!
Ahhh... that is a breath of fresh air! Thanks for sharing that ... it makes the anticipation even MORE tantalizing.
ReplyDeleteWe do hate to complain, but I think most of us are really at our breaking point. Seeing those lovely little grape hyacinths and the daffies and the robin ... just can hardly wait! This will be one spring that no one takes for granted!
Loved your wonderful upbeat narrative too! We can hardly wait to have you back!
