Road Trip!
Today we finally had some sun after 3 very rainy days.  Unfortunate for Kylie to come when the weather was rainy so we decided to use those as our shopping days.  Today it warmed up to 16 and not a drop of rain so we took a road trip to Quartzsite.  It is a small town of about 2000 people but they have an RV and rock and gem/mineral shows in January and February.   There are RV's everywhere and as well as the rocks and gems there are tons of flea market stalls.
We saw these little guys all perched out in the sun on the way to Quartzsite.

The rocks were beautiful, some of them were larger than a basketball even.

Some weren't even rocks, this was "dino poop"  there was also dino bones and various teeth and claws and what not.

These lacy rocks were so beautiful.  Kylie bought a slice of mookaite which she is hoping to try cabbing with.

One vendor was selling rows and rows of pretty dishes.  They were all in color coordinated order and were very appealing to us!
Ohhh I love tiger eye and petrified wood the best
Check out the close up picture following this one, this creature was made up of all kinds of spare parts including a toenail clipper.

These huge rocks were just beautiful.
Yum, hotdogs smothered with onion and peppers with a root beer float.  Most of the food groups covered there - cept for chocolate!
Seriously - LOL
There were rows and rows of vendors and motorhomes for sale.  On the way back to Mesa we stopped in to visit with a lady that Kylie works with.  Her and her husband live in Buckeye and have a very nice house there.  They also gave Kylie pointers on another outlet mall.  They live on Dove Trail.  There are various juts out on this street just like we have in Saskatoon, such as Dove Cove, Dove Road etc.  Except on this street they have the same number on Dove Cove as they do on Dove Trail  ie: 251 Dove Cove, and 251 Dove Trail.  Lets just say luckily the wrong house we knocked at first had no one at home.
Two little cuties at the flea market!

This is my birthday pizzookie.  Kylie took us out for a fantastic meal at BJ's Brew House.
Off to bed early, we have a full day planned in Phoenix tomorrow.  All you hockey fans watch for us in the crowd as we watch Edmonton Oilers game tomorrow night.

  1. Oh My Gosh- those rocks are just amazing! I love those pink/ deeper reddish coloured ones. It is so hard to tell the size of them from a pic! Some looked the size of those drums that are holding them up and I simply couldn't imagine a huge reddish pink rock like that. Imagine how neat that would be in your yard as a focal piece in the garden Wowser!
I also wonder what kind of price tag is on those rocks that you say are basketball sized?

    And hey, coprolite happens.

I have no idea what cabbing is? Kylie only bought one piece of rock??

Holy smokes- look at the rows and rows of dishes. So who goes to those shows mostly? If this is a small town how do they draw people in and do they have those shows almost weekly? I can't imagine setting up all that stuff!

I see you too standing by that hunk... of rock. LOL. Gosh it seems funny to see people standing without winter parkas on and snow up the wazoo. It's -34 this morning here and you are making me cold ;)

Hang on to that rootbeer float Kylie, or sit by your dad.

Bwahahaha. Can you be much more clear about what is allowed in the garbage can?

Om nom - the birthday treatie thing you had there looks delish and your hair really does look good Sue! Hope you have a super happy fun time on your trip this morning and thanks for the entry in your blog.

    1. I could not believe they would have chunks of rocks that big either. It was really neat to see. Cabbing is polishing rocks on a machine - you remember when she was doing that? She bought 3 pieces altogether. The rocks were so many different prices depending on the size, clarity etc. Lots sold by the pound. Some were in the 1000's of dollars. We talked to one lady who told us a little about the business. They basically go and dig for a lot of the rocks. There is a book about this for each area as to what rocks are where which would be super interesting. Kind of a fun hobby turned into a little business for most of them. This lady's son actually moved to Regina and is married to a Canadian and is taking geology. This show has grown and grown as RV people grouped in this little town. It was fun to see once and good that Kylie could see the country side and the mountains. I have to admit the sun did feel pretty nice but you still needed a light jacket - and of course I was hoping for her to get some super warm weather but hey, its like a lot better than -34 (UGH) OMG I just started laughing when I read about the root beer float, Don was looking at me like I was crazy!!

  2. haha @ the Don looking at you like you're crazy. Too funny.
Isn't that something about those rocks- that would make me feel like buying a shovel and going to find my own!! Can you do that or is it frowned upon?

Well you still have a few days left with Kylie- let's hope real hard for some sunshine.

On a little happier note, when we get sun now it has some real heat to it. yesterday was -24C and there was a windchill, but if you shoveled your steps or deck where the sun could hit it, it was melting. My garbage can had icicles dripping off it.
