                                  Vancouver Island part 3

The weather did not cooperate with us and there were a number of very wet cold days that just didn't let us get out and explore.  This area had nearly twice the normal rainfall for April.  We made sure we got out and enjoyed the beauty of this area every chance we could.  Janet and I visited many greenhouses and looked at plants and bought plants to fill her pots.  We even collected some moss and made this basket which was super fun and that we hope will keep them in lettuce for the summer.
this basket is doing very well and we later planted some pretty little purple pansies in the top

These pictures are from the Maritime museum.  We had a private tour from a very knowledgeable man and learned a   lot about the history of the fishing industry in Campbell River (which their sign proudly claims is the salmon capital of the world). This boat was donated to the museum and volunteers re did it to be as close to original as possible.  It is the boat that was on our old five dollar bills.  There were tons of interesting artifacts to look at as well.

Going to this museum and the Campbell River museum was such a great thing to do as we then knew about a lot of the history of the area.  We learned what a tyee is for example, also how the big rock came to be on the beach (a native story) and the ripple rock story.

it was so cold and windy this day that we could not even walk to the end of this dock as much as we wanted to.

                                                    these are marbled murrelet waterbirds

this last group of pictures was taken on a warmer day on the Comox waterfront.  We also went to Filberg park and Goose Spit Park the same day.

Don and Rick went out fishing and Janet and I went to Miracle beach and Saratoga Beach.  Both of us could walk on the beach for hours.

these last 4 are just pictures out in the park or in the nature trail close by
