OK this is random . . .

This is our last night in Bakersfield.  We are on our way to Vegas and will stop half way.  We decided we want to land somewhere for at least a week as it is a big travelling holiday down here and we don't want to be on the roads. Also the weather is supposed to be good in Vegas and we want to see all the beautiful parks and canyons around there while we can. I can't wait to go back to Red Rock canyon!
The weather has been amazing the last couple of days, I have been able to wear Capri's and sandals.  Also it has cleared up some and you can actually see the mountains.  To the south we didn't even know there was mountains until yesterday.
The oranges are turning oranger every day and I have eaten a lot of them.  Here's my stash to take with me to Nevada.  I have to eat them before we go to Arizona as they will take them (like they took my full bag when we entered California from Oregon)
We have not done anything interesting the last two days but did get the laundry done and the place scrubbed from top to bottom.  Also I did manage to make some banana muffins for our travelling days.

This is  really good recipe and tastes just like the banana loaf mom used to make.  You mix your sugar, egg, butter, banana, then put in a teaspoon each of powder and soda.  Then as you are measuring out your flour the lid comes off the container, which is of course right over the bowl with the wet ingredients.  You then swear a little, scoop out some flour and put it back in the container.  Then you scoop more out with a spoon.  Mix and add a little milk because it is a little thick.  Bake  and eat   YUMMY

Parlez-vous . . .  what???   We really felt a minority in a lot of places here. Is kind of weird to be somewhere and not understand a word of what they are saying.

Can you see that the trunks of the orange trees are painted white?  When we first drove in I thought it was a little anal to be painting your tree trunks, but they are pretty fussy at this RV park.  Then I noticed more painted trunks in other areas as well.  Apparently the bark can get sunburned. In areas where there isn't much shade it is used as a sunscreen.  Who knew??

Another random little bit of info that I found interesting is the rows and rows of plastic covering the grapes.  We are talking acres and acres of grapes and rolls and rolls of plastic.  When I googled this I found that they do this when the later grapes are nearing their desired ripeness.  If they get wet they will get moldy and diseased.  It doesn't rain much in Aug/Sept but the plastic is there just in case.
And last but not least

Look at these!

Hope I can blog from Nevada - internet may not be great at the place we are going but we will check out the internet sticks and what not.
